Northern Bat Working Group.A hub for bat researchers in the north.

Our Goal
Annual Meetings |
We aim to be a gathering point for bat researchers all across the north. We hold annual meetings (hybrid in-person/virtual) to share recent findings, collaborate on publications, and learn about new equipment or research techniques.
All are welcome and encouraged to present, whether it's a 5-minute update on general monitoring efforts, or a 15-minute overview of a final thesis, this is a great chance to share your recent research no matter how big or small! |
Our 2023 Virtual Meetings will be held on Friday, December 1st @ 09:15 Alaska standard time.
Click here for the agenda and access details. Each year the Northern Bat Working Group holds a full day of meetings to connect researchers across the north. This is an opportunity for researchers to share their recent findings, update the group on current research or monitoring efforts, and brainstorm or problem solve issues researchers are currently facings. If you would like to join us for our 2023 meetings, please join our email list, or contact us through the Contact page. |

In April 2012, Link Olson (UAM) and Karen Blejwas (ADF&G) organized a session entitled “Bat Ecology in Alaska – Assessing the Risk of White-nose Syndrome” at the meeting of the Alaska Chapter of the Wildlife Society in Anchorage, Alaska. Presentations by researchers from Alaska and Canada provided an excellent overview of the state of our knowledge about northern bats. In the afternoon, biologists and managers from Alaska, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and British Columbia gathered together for a working session. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet face-to-face and discuss the issues and challenges that are unique to northern bats. Tom Jung (Yukon) and Cori Lausen (British Columbia) encouraged the group to take the next step and form a Northern Bat Working Group – so we did!
